COVID-19: Activity changes through April
Dear friends and members of Mt Carmel,
As followers of Christ, we have no higher calling than the health, well-being and common good of our neighbor. It is no secret to anyone over these past few days that we as a nation must now work together to do everything we reasonably can to decrease the transmission of COVID-19, the Coronavirus. Medical experts are quite clear that it has become imperative for all of us to practice “social distancing,” among other things like hand washing and not touching our faces.
The Church Council, Office Administrator Steve Robertson and I have been in deliberation about what Mt Carmel’s response should be to this health crisis. Out of faithfulness to God’s call to us as a faith community, we believe it is best for us to cancel Sunday worship, Wednesday evening supper and services, and all church activities through at least April. We will re-evaluate the situation following that.
The Mt. Carmel Child Care Center leadership are in the process of determining the best course of action for the child care.
It is of course critical for people of faith that we can turn each other for support and spiritual nurture. To this end, there are many resources and options available to us, even while practicing social distancing. The Church Council will be meeting to carve out a more comprehensive plan to allow us to continue God’s work among us and to the world. Stay tuned for that.
In the meantime, it is best to turn to scripture to be reminded of God’s faithfulness in times like these. Our God is a God of life, and God will not be denied. As Paul reminded us in Romans 8:
“Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will hardship, or distress, or persecution, or famine, nakedness or peril or sword? For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
So have no fear, little flock! The God of Jacob is our refuge.
Thanks be to God!
